Bringing joy to young lives through music

The music of your life

After this week’s Human Planet about jungles on the BBC, I was inspired to find out more about the Bayaka tribe of the Central African Republic of Congo. The shot of them using the river where they wash their clothes as a percussion instrument was amazing. Next bath time is going to be a lot of fun!

Here are some KS1/2 activities from Minuteoflistening.org exploring Bayaka culture for 5-9 year olds. Kindermusik for the Young Child families – you look at the KS1 activities.

Here is some music recorded ‘in the field’ by Louis Sarno from the archives Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford.

What sounds can you hear in your back garden or street? Can you make your own music by copying them?

Enjoy the music around you and be part of it!
